When Cathy* came to us, she had been given custody of her grandchildren and was overwhelmed by the demands of caring for so many kids. Through TFG, she was connected with host families and a partner church. For the past year, these volunteers have been wrapping around Cathy and her grandkids. The three youngest were hosted so Cathy could focus on the older grandson, who had personally requested to be part of a church. Our partner church heartily welcomed him into their youth program, and a host family provided rides to and from these weekly meetings.
Recently, Cathy's case manager, Lynsey, reached out to check in. Lynsey was surprised when Cathy said she didn't need any hostings. Cathy shared that things have been going so well and she "wants to find family time to be with [her grandkids]."
Cathy shared that a host family has helped not only in caring for her grandchildren, but the host dad has been over to help with household projects. The support that Cathy has received has moved her and her family from a place of chronic stress to a state of felt stability. Although our staff will continue to support Cathy and her grandchildren as needed, we are so thankful that she has built in dependable support through our volunteers.
