A College Student's Impact at TFG

When Cayleen, one of Together for Good’s case managers, saw Jamie’s* application to be a TFG parent advocate come through, she wasn’t quite sure how a young college student would connect with a mom.

However, Jamie knew that God was calling her to be a parent advocate. And God has shown  time and time again that he has an intentional plan for each TFG volunteer, so Cayleen began praying for the perfect pairing. A short time later, Reina* called TFG.

Reina was really interested in the possibility of having a TFG parent advocate; however, she wasn’t looking for a mentor with parenting advice. She said that what she really needed was someone who could help her with her immigration process, as she was currently working towards getting her citizenship.

That is when Cayleen remembered Jamie. Jamie had shared during her application process that she had helped her parents get their U.S. citizenship.

Jamie and Reina were matched and quickly discovered they had a lot in common. Reina shared with Together for Good how much she appreciated us matching her with someone whom she could relate to. When Reina and Jamie spoke, it was almost like they were speaking another language; they related to each other so much.

Jamie helped prepare Reina for her citizenship test, and this last month, Reina called TFG to say that she had passed her test!

Jamie said, “It was a total miracle, only God could have done it because [during the test] they didn't ask her any of the test questions she needed to write or read [in order to answer]. So good to see that He's still in the miracle-working business.”

Jamie and Reina’s friendship is a beautiful reminder and testimony that God is bringing each and every volunteer to Together for Good for a specific purpose. None of it is by accident. He knows what participants will need even before they pick up the phone to call Together for Good, and He is preparing exactly the right volunteer to be ready to answer that call.

What’s even more amazing is that you could be the person He wants to use to make the next participant mom who calls TFG feel known, seen, and loved.
