Miraculous Timing: 3 Crisis Needs Met Within Minutes

Jen, a TFG case manager in Minnesota, could not believe how the Holy Spirit had worked today.

When she first began the day, Jen received a call from a mom on her case load named Renee*. Renee had recently learned that she was expecting twins. With a one-year-old son already in the picture, Renee felt overwhelmed at the potential for caring for two more babies, especially after her mom – her only source of support – was sentenced to jail for two years.

Renee called Jen, crying, saying, “There’s no way I can do this.” Renee felt her only option was abortion. However, right before Renee called, Jen had received a message from a host mom saying that she felt called to help a mom with twins. The message simply asked Jen to keep her family in mind if anyone with twins or who was expecting twins needed help.

In Renee’s most desperate moment, God was providing hope. Jen was able to share with Renee in that very conversation that she had someone not only ready to help with Renee’s one-year-old, but who would walk alongside Renee through her pregnancy and delivery of these two new babies.

As Jen finished her call with Renee, she received another call from a mom named Talia*. Talia was battling substance addiction and had decided that today was the day that she was going to enter a treatment and recovery program. The problem was that she needed to detox for 72 hours and had no one to care for her 18-month-old daughter during that time.

Talia felt utterly alone – she was trying to do the right thing for herself and her daughter, yet she had no one to support her.

As Talia was explaining her situation to Jen, Jen received a text message from a host mom, Sarah*, saying, “If anyone needs care today, let me know.” Despite it being a Wednesday (most hostings happen on the weekends), Sarah felt God prompting her to open their home to a crisis situation.

Jen knew that this prompting was for Talia and her daughter. Just two hours later, Jen and Sarah were meeting Talia at the treatment center. Sarah greeted Talia warmly, assuring her that her daughter would be safe and loved and returned to her after she finished detoxing. With the confidence and support of Sarah and Jen, Talia walked through the doors of the treatment center, head held high, ready to begin a new chapter of life.

Jen had just returned to the office after the pickup with Talia when she received a call from Libby*. Libby was a participant mom who had given birth to a beautiful little boy named Jared* just a few months before. But in this moment, Libby couldn’t see joy in being Jared’s mom. She was experiencing severe post-partum depression. Libby told Jen that she hadn’t slept in a month and was so utterly exhausted and alone that she didn’t know what to do.

While Jen was on the phone with Libby, she received a text message from a host mom, Emelia*. Emelia, a trained midwife, had texted Jen, “If you have any moms struggling with postpartum depression, I would love to help.” Jen smiled as she said to Libby, “Let me set up a hosting for Jared so you can take a break.” In a matter of hours, Abby went from feeling alone in her despair to having a community of believers come alongside her and provide practical, needed support for her in this season.

As Jen drove home that night, she reflected on the day. Three crisis calls in the span of only 6 hours, drastically different needs, all urgent, all important, and all met. Jen knew that Jesus was not surprised by any of these calls, and He had already been moving in the hearts of TFG host families to show these new participant moms and their children that they are seen, known, and loved by their Heavenly Father.

These three moms and their children received the help they needed in that moment, but they have also received a steadfast community that continues to walk with them.

Renee’s son was hosted by the same host family for two weeks when she delivered the twins. The host family has continued to provide regular respite care for all three of Renee’s children.

Talia successfully completed detox and knows that she can call TFG for help at any time.

Libby has continued to receive regular respite hostings from Emelia and is becoming a wonderful, confident mother.
